Agro-tourism is the latest in variety of tourism concepts. It helps bridge the ever-widening gap between rural and urban India. The concept is gaining popularity and it’s providing a great escape for people in urban India from their high-paced, strenuous and many times monotonous lifestyle. At the same time it’s helping the new generation to get first-hand experience of the rural life of India, which otherwise is limited only to the books for them. Spending time on the farms, interacting with the local people and farmers to get an insight into their day-to-day work and their traditions, participating in the local fairs and festivals, doing the actual work on the farm, milking the cow, riding a bullock-cart, are some of the activities that can be enjoyed on an agro-tourism outing.
About Kokan Safari
Situated in the scenic locale of Chiveli, just 35 KMs from Chiplun, Dist. Ratnagiri. The Chiveli village has a feel of rural India combined with abundance of greenery that you come to associate with the area. The backwaters of local Vashishti River and the mountains surrounding the place add to the beauty of the landscape. Spending a day at KokanSafari site can be a real stress-buster. You can roam around in the woods, go out on the farms, take a tour of the village, do some of the agricultural activities yourself, or simply put up your feet and relax in the peace and calm of the nature. Since ages, nature worship and the conservation ethics have been an inseparable part of Indian thought and traditions. Traces go back to ancient civilizations of India, when people used to nurture the philosophy of the oneness of life. The Indian tradition has always taught that, humankind is a part of nature and one should look upon all creations with the eyes of love and respect. KokanSafari was started in 2012 by Mr. Dinesh Govind Shirke in Chiveli. The main objective behind it was of rebuilding man's relationship with nature. Urban living has made man completely insensitive to his surroundings, people and environment. The mad quest for material ends and economic progress in India and abroad has been identified with the exploitation of nature in all its appearances. KokanSafari gives an opportunity to rebuild this relationship & sensitivity to the world around us. Nature has powers to heal in many different ways- mentally, emotionally and physically by turning one's focus inward. Agro-tourism and Ecotourism is a natural offshoot of the above concept. India's topography boasts an abundant source of flora & fauna. Therefore the farm has organically grown vegetables, fruits and flowers. Numbers of trees have been planted to make sure the farm has enough of green cover. We build environmental and cultural awareness and respect. Provide positive experiences for visitors and financial benefits and empowerment of local people. Raise sensitivity to the country's political, environmental and social climate. KokanSafari is not just a tourist destination that de-stresses you, but will also rejuvenate you.
Dinesh Govind Shirke
Mr. Dinesh Govind Shirke born and brought up in Mumbai and his native place is Chiveli, Tal. Chiplun. Kokan Safari is his dream of developing his own native place i.e. Chiveli. Which is fully blessed by nature but still is unknown to the world. Chiveli being his native place he has his old ancient house in this village. He decided to develop his own native place in the name of Siddhivinayak Farm. He constructed his own farmhouse and a tourist guest house near it.
KokanSafari is the name of this tourism project. He belive that until and unless tourists or visitors visits this place it will not come on the actual tourism map of Kokan. He is quite confident that once the tourist visit this place they will come again and again to enjoy the beauty of the nature.
He is a visionary. After working in a well-known company in Mumbai for 7 yrs. he started his own electrical business. Which he continued for 5 yrs. After that started his actual dream profession i.e. real estate and land development. Inspite of being a land developer he is well aware of the importance of nature and plantations. He planned lot of things in KokanSafari.
Trees like Mango, Cashew, Coconut, Flower plants, etc are planted in the premises under his own personel guidance. He also has made a facility of fresh vegetables direct from the garden to the kitchen.
Special safety vehicle arangement has been made for jungle safari. Bird watchers, Nature lovers, a tourist who is really fed-up of city life will surely appreciate his effort. This is just a minor step ragarding the development of Chiveli. He belive that still he has to go far in the field of kokan development.
